Texas Wax/Dallas
In November of 2007, Gwen Plunkett from Houston contacted Deanna Wood from the Dallas area and invited her to join Gwen’s newly formed encaustic group. Deanna had been wanting to start a group of her own, so she decided to start a group in Dallas and partner with Gwen’s group. The first meeting of TexasWAX/Dallas was held at Janet Reynolds’ studio in Dallas in January of 2008. In one short month, we organized a joint show with Gwen’s Houston group, held in Dallas at Collaborating Artists Media Project, Inc. It was planned to coincide with the College Art Association Conference happening in Dallas at the same time.
In August of 2008 the Dallas group participated in a group show called “Some Like it Hot” at the Bath House Cultural Center in Dallas. That show traveled to the Texas Artists Museum in Port Arthur, once again joining with the Houston group for a joint exhibition.
The group continues to grow and is planning several shows and demonstrations in 2009.
