Statement
I have never considered myself an “artist”, I prefer the term “creator” because I love to create - clothing, cakes, cards, colleges. My first love is fabric, which translates to my fascination with texture, pattern, and color. I am always impressed by the variety of textures, patterns, and colors in fabric store and emotional responses they illicit. I enjoy the sensual experience of slowing running my hand over the bolts of fabrics. I have found paper also has the power to create emotional responses through the same sensory devices. This is the reason I am drawn to collage and assemblage. My art has many inspirations, from emotional situations I’m dealing with to an image from a dream to an item found on the street. Each piece takes on it’s own life during the creation process. I enjoy finding the perfect fabric to play off the texture or color of a handmade paper, or the right image to juxtapose a found object. I believe art should invoke a response, whether good or bad, positive or negative. If the viewer responses in some way, the art has touch that viewer, it has left an impression. This is what I want to accomplish with my art.
