R&F brings Encaustic to you. Our 4 day Regional Encaustic Workshops give participants a thorough introduction to the encaustic medium method. Artists with backgrounds in almost any medium will find these workshops are an exciting opportunity to expand their visual vocabulary with wax. Some who attend have little familiarity with encaustic, others have experience working in the medium, but seek to refine their technique. The dynamic created by this diverse mix of artists adds to the learning experience and to the discovery of new techniques and applications. Class size is limited to 10 participants.

Intermediate Workshop and Retreat with Paula Roland in Santa Fe

GREETINGS ENCAUSTIC ARTISTS, Here is an update concerning the Intermediate Workshop and Retreat in Santa Fe, October 1-8. Artists are attending from as far away as the UK and Saskatchewan, and from all across the US. This is a great group to learn with, and from, and an opportunity to take your work to the next level. Due to last minute cancellations, we have three spaces available, Please forward this info to those who might be interested. Participants must already know the basics and have at least a year’s studio experience with encaustic.

Below you will see the topics we will cover and a tentative schedule. The length, seven full days, allows you to develop a cohesive body of work for a show, try out new projects, and enjoy the Santa Fe mountain setting and unique culture.

Texas Wax Austin Members Heating Things Up at Majestic Ranch

Eleven members of the Austin group of Texas Wax spent this past weekend heating things up in an encaustic painting workshop at Majestic Ranch in Boerne, TX. Carolyn Todd, Sharon Kyle-Kuhn, Maggie Jordan, Marianne Sexton, Roxi McCloskey, Kristy Battani, Daphne Holland, Dianne Talley, Kerry Washburn, Marilyn Fenn and David Pound met early Saturday morning in the hilltop classroom for the two day workshop. Roxie McCloskey gave several painting technique demonstrations, and the group exchanged various tips and techniques, but mostly the artists were quite immersed in painting.

Saturday night, after the day’s painting was done, the group enjoyed dinner out together at a brew pub in Boerne.

Many thanks to Roxi McCloskey and Daphne Holland for organizing this event, and to all the artists who took part. A special thanks to David Pound, for bringing a whole vanload of cool stuff to share with the other artists! It was a great weekend, and one that we hope will be just the first of many such workshops to come!
