————–
Texas WAX/Dallas in partnership with Texas Discovery Gardens presents GLOBAL SWARMING, reflections upon Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). In conjunction with the State Fair of Texas, we have invited Texas Wax members, state wide, to participate. Our common bond is the use of bees wax in our work.

Encaustic wax is an ancient painting method enjoying a resurgence today.

One is every 3 bites of our food is dependent upon the pollination of bees. Since 2006, there has been an alarming decrease within the bee population. CCD is the perfect storm of stresses.

Apiary overcrowding, loss of nectar due to habitat reduction, pesticides, pollination of crops with low nutritional value, exposure to contaminated water supplies as well as high levels of the Varroa mite factor into this alarming situation.

It is our intention to bring to light the importance of this issue. We are grateful for the opportunity to work with TDG and to interface with the community. Please join us in this thoughful exchange.

Artistic Techniques for working with wax by Patricia Seggebruch
$22 – with tax: $23.81
Patricia is self taught; painting in mixed media and encaustic for nine years. Having the good fortune of working from her own studio on site at her home, in Washington, Patricia is able to play daily with new ideas that incorporate a variety of mediums into her work. One can find watercolor under encaustic; acrylic as a basis for oil; pastel worked into a watercolor collage. The nature of her work allows for experimentation and interplay of materials without getting caught up in any limitations of medium, style or discipline.
While keeping her own work in progress, Patricia also teaches workshops throughout the US and can be found at 8 venues in 2010. She rounds out her life with the raising of her four teenage sons. Her DVDs include: Encaustic Collage Workshop, Encaustic Workshop: image transfer and Encaustic Workshop: shellac burn which will be available soon.
